During the summer break LGS pupils continued to excel in their individual fields. Here is a snapshot of some of the success they enjoyed.

Sporting Achievements
Jude Williams
Jude has been competing across the Irish National Triathlon Youth Series and is currently leading the 14-15 year old field following triathlons in Kerry, Galway, Dublin and the North Coast. Recently he came second in the Irish National Aquathon Championships in Portrush.

Finn O’Neill
Finn competed for Ireland at the European U18 Athletics Championships which took place in Jerusalem, Israel in the Decathlon and Captained the Irish Athletics team at the Schools International.

James Laird
James competed in many Tennis Ireland Tournaments over the summer. His successes at these tournaments have now placed him in the top 10 in Ulster Junior Rankings at U16 (ranked 6th) and U18 (ranked 9th) at the end of the summer (week beginning 22nd August).

Killian Brolly
Killian was selected for the Ulster Schools’ Under 17s rugby squad after training all summer with Ulster Under 16s. He will begin training in September.

Ana McGookin, Pablo McIlroy-Sanchez, Jude Willians, Alec George and Joshua Hunt
Anna, Pablo and Jude attended the Division 2 Swimming National Championships in Limerick. All rose to the occasion with Anna bringing home a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke and Pablo a silver medal in the 50m freestyle final. Alec and Joshua then travelled to Dublin to compete in the Division 1 Nationals, reaching finals in a number of events.

Seth Guy
North West Cricket Under 15s Interpros.

Alice McLaughlin
Under 15 and Under 17s North West Cricket Union Girls’ teams in the interpros.

Anna Sloan and Ella Mark
Represented Ulster Under 16s Girls’ team in matches during the summer against The Eagle Impact Academy.

Martin Kirk, Conor Armstrong, Luca Doherty and Jack Patton
Represented County Derry/Londonderry in the NI SuperCup.

Luca Doherty
Represented Northern Ireland in the NI SuperCup showcase match against Manchester Utd.

Yna Cisnero
Yna competed in Divsion 1 Irish Summer Nationals and won bronze in the 100m breaststroke- 17 y/o age group, 4th in the 200m & 4th in the 50m Open age group.

Robert McFarland
Northwest Under 17 cricket team. Played in Under 17 Interpro Series and was also selected for a T20 game for Northwest Emerging Warriors.

Kaia Moore
Kaia played with Ireland U18 in a three day Scotland series. She also came runner up with Ulster in the UK School Games.

Kenya McCartney
Under 17 North West Cricket Union Girls’ team in the interpros.

Fearghus Canning
Fearghus selected for the Ulster Under 19s Rugby Squad for the interpros.

Maebh Clenaghan
Ulster Under 18s Girls Rugby – Played in the summer interpros.
Irish Uner 18 Girls Rugby – Six Nations Representation.

Arts / Music / Academic Achievements
Emma McCurry
Emma won a championship in Irish dancing and became a champion Irish dancer at Bangor Irish dancing festival. She placed 7th at the Northern Ireland championships and danced at the red sails Portstewart.

Billie Jean Gilmore
Billie Jean travelled to Blackpool to take part in World Dance Masters World Championships at the end of July. Billie Jean danced in the Novice Teen category and gained 4th and 5th places. She also achieved a 2nd and 5th place while dancing with her dance school, OMD Dance.

Aoibhinn Nicholl
Aoibhinn achieved Grade 7 with Distinction in her Trinty College London examination in Piano.

Oscar McMichael
Lead role (Jeremy) in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang the musical with the Bardic Theatre and JLM Dance in Donaghmore. Nine days of rehearsals and three days with two shows on each day. Two hundred people in the audience for each show.

Ieuan Hegarty
Pathway Opportunity Programme @ Queen’s University, Belfast.
Ieuan completed this course in Biological sciences programme by attending online and in-person QUB lectures and submitting coursework. He also had a week long summer school which he attended in June – which entailed lab work, essays and lectures. He passed with 71% – which entitles him to 2 grade reductions and £1000 bursary when he enrols in QUB biological sciences course in September 2023.
