LGS Sports Awards 2024

Matthew DunlopSports

On Wednesday 17th April we held our Annual Sports’ Assembly, which was an opportunity to recognise and reward all of the effort and success of our Sports Teams and Athletes.

We were delighted to welcome former pupils, Chloe and Judith MacCombe, back to the Grammar School as our special guests to present the awards. The twin sisters, both Para-triathlete, competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games representing Northern Ireland. At those Games, Chloe claimed a silver medal, with sister Judith placing an impressive 4th. The pair now aim to qualify for the Paralympics hosted in Paris this year.

The MacCombe’s shared some of their experiences with the audience of award winners and team members, and shared an inspiring message finding ‘why’ you do what you do, preparing for failure in sport, surrounding yourself with good support and always enjoying the process. Rugby 1st XV captain, Odhran and Hockey 1st XI captain, Olivia, presented the sisters with a gift of thanks.

During the Assembly, 20 pupils were awarded their Full Colours for their commitment to School Sport and other areas of school life. Jacob B, Ryan L, Yna C, Abbi C and Jude W were awarded Special Elite Awards. Finn O’N was also presented with a special award for his outstanding success in Athletics during his time at Limavady Grammar School.

Ethan M (Rugby), Emma L (Hockey), Conor A (Football), Aislinn McD (Netball), Seth G and Callum S (Cricket) received the top award in each of their sports.

It was also a time to thank all of our Year 14 pupils who have shown huge commitment to each of their Sports throughout their time at School.
