Swimming Success

Seven LGS pupils took part in this year’s Swim Ulster Schools Cup and Championships in Bangor on Saturday.

In the junior category, we had two of our younger swimmers: Hollie (who made her debut at this type of competition) and Jude. Their determined efforts made a great start of the day by considerably improving their PBs and showing that LGS were there to give it their all.

The afternoon session couldn’t have started better. Alec, Pablo, Joshua and Jude (who was now swimming in a category above his age) took gold in the boys medley and freestyle relays. A double victory that has never been done before in the history of LGS. What an incredible achievement for the four boys and a proud moment for the school!

Pablo, Joshua and Abbi followed up with individual performances that saw them making personal bests and banking some more qualifying times for national competitions in the summer.

Alec and Yna swam their star event of 100m breaststroke, both comfortably securing places in the finals. After swimming several races and helping his teammates to gold Alec swam a solid race in his final and came in a very respectable 6th position. In her final, Yna executed her game plan perfectly, swimming a technical race and putting in a superb performance that won her a bronze medal and another place on the podium for LGS. Highly impressive individual swims from both athletes!

Congratulations to all swimmers on their individual and team achievements. Your parents, coaches and teachers are very proud of you.

Finally, a massive thank you to the parents, coaches and officials who came to support our swimmers; it couldn’t have been done without you.
