Sixth Form : Music - A Level


The A/AS-Level syllabus aims to incorporate the fundamental musical activities of Composing, Listening and Performing.

The syllabus provides much flexibility in order to accommodate the needs of a wide variety of students.

1 piece of free composition

1 additional composing/performing/technology-related task

Solo or Ensemble performance

1 additional composing/performing/technology-related task

Aural Perception test (¾ hour)

Written exam  (1¼ hours)

Pupils wishing to study Music at this level should:

1.    have a practical standard of at least Grade 5

2.    have a standard of Theory of Music - approximately Grade 5

3.    have at least a grade B in GCSE Music (if they have studied the subject at this level)
