Sixth Form : Modern Languages - A Level


An AS or A-Level in French and/or German is suitable for those who may wish to continue their study of languages into Higher Education but also those who may not want to specialise in languages, but who are interested in the subject for personal, leisure or vocational reasons.

AS

The AS Level course builds on and develops the knowledge and skills obtained at GCSE Level.  Students study a range of topics relating to the culture of the country concerned (eg Health, Youth Concerns, Social Issues, Current Affairs).  At the end of the year, students take three modules:

Prepared Oral Topic/the discussion of a topic chosen and researched by the student in advance).

Those students carrying on to take the full A-Level study three more modules in Year 14 -

Oral - Discussion of Issues (students take a stance on a topical issue and debate it with their  examiner).

Topics and Texts (literature and/or civilisation topics).

(6)

Listening, Reading and Writing.



In today's fast-changing society, a qualification in Modern Languages is becoming increasingly sought after by employers.  If you have enjoyed French or German at GCSE Level and have achieved a good standard, seriously consider studying one or both languages at AS/A Level.
