Sixth Form : Home Economics- A Level


Introduction

Home Economics is designed to provide a broad background of knowledge and understanding through a range of practical and theoretical contexts.  It aims to prepare young people for life in a consumer-orientated society and provides a basis for those seeking employment in a wide range of careers, such as industry, commerce, education and health and social services.

 Throughout the course(s) students will have opportunities to:

        develop critical and evaluation skills

        use information and communication technology to enhance learning

        understand how decisions are made and evaluate their significance

        develop as discerning consumers able to make informed choices and manage resources effectively

        develop positive attitudes of co-operation and citizenship.

Structure

GCE Home Economics adopts a modular structure.  Students are required to complete three modules for the AS course and a further three modules for the full Advanced GCE course.  An outline of these is included below:

Assessment of AS 1, 2, 3, A2 1 and A2 3 will be by external examination.  A2 2 is research based and will be teacher assessed and externally moderated.

It is possible to study GCE Home Economics without having chosen it for GCSE.
