Year 11

The Technology and Design syllabus builds upon the work covered in key stage three.

The four main areas of the course are: 

Component

Description

Designing

Investigating,    drawing,   modelling    and    evaluating.

Communicating

2D and 3D graphic techniques  including computer-aided  design (CAD).

Manufacturing

Using  tools  and  equipment  to cut, shape  and  finish a range of materials.

Energy and Control

Mechanical, pneumatic, electronic and computer control systems.

50% of marks are for a design project: designing and making an artifact that includes some element of control and used IT in the design process. 

10% of marks are for two short focused design tasks in year 11.

40% of marks are mainly for communicating and energy and control in the terminal examination.
