The Technology and Design syllabus builds upon the work covered in key stage three.
The four main areas of the course are:

| Designing |
Investigating, drawing, modelling and evaluating. |
| Communicating |
2D and 3D graphic techniques including computer-aided design (CAD). |
| Manufacturing |
Using tools and equipment to cut, shape and finish a range of materials. |
| Energy and Control |
Mechanical, pneumatic, electronic and computer control systems. |
50% of marks are for a design project: designing and making an artifact that includes some element of control and used IT in the design process.
10% of marks are for two short focused design tasks in year 11.
