| Physics
Physics will follow a syllabus which fosters interest, enthusiasm, understanding and critical evaluation through a process of exploration and investigation. The syllabus also allows the opportunity to develop communication skills and a student's appreciation of the scientific, social, economic, environmental and technological contributions and applications of physics. The subject content is set out in the following sections:
GCSE Physics students will have five periods per week and at the end of the course will be examined by two methods: i. coursework assessment ii. terminal examination and GCSE certificates will only be awarded for achievement levels 4-10. The practical coursework assessment accounts for 25% of the final mark. There are three assessment categories here:
Mathematical Requirements Any mathematical skills required by students to complete the course will be taught as part of the physics syllabus but past experience indicates that pupils who take Additional Mathematics at GCSE perform at a high level in GCSE Physics. Additional Maths is also a considerable help to those pupils thinking of taking Physics to A-level. It should be noted, however, that Additional Maths at GCSE level is not essential.
