Realisation of the Dream

On 14th September 2007, Minister Edwin Poots was in attendance whenever our Mayor,   Cllr Edwin Stevenson officially opened the new Synthetic Sports Surface at the rear of the school.

The facility is for all the community to use, as signalled by the pupils from local primary schools as they ran out in a variety of sportswear from hockey, to soccer, and from rugby to Gaelic football.  It’s good to see the interest from local   youngsters as already we have a Tag Rugby day on Wednesday and a soccer day next week involving pupils from the local schools.  We have written to all the schools encouraging them to book the pitch at no cost during the day.

New Synthetic Pitch

It’s frustrating that we haven’t been able to open it in the evening as the Department of Education has still not completed its consideration of the Management Agreement which is required under today’s very stringent legislation.  The school certainly played its part in sending the draft document to the Western Education and Library Board in early June.  As soon as we have this final document we will see the pitch in use in the evenings and at the weekends.

As part of the official opening of the new Astroturf pitch, the 1st XI played an ‘old girls’ XI and defeated them 1 – 0.  It was a pleasure to see these girls again, five of whom were former 1st XI captains.  Many thanks to all of them for taking time out from their busy schedules – it is hoped that we could make this match a regular pre-season fixture.
